Basionym: Peziza subgen. Scutellinia Cooke, Mycographia, seu Icones fungorum 1 (6): 259. 1879. Scutellinia subgen. Scutellinia (Cooke) Lambotte: 299 (prepr.) 1887.

Type species: Trichaleurina polytricha Rehm, Leaflets of Philippine Botany 6: 2234. 1914.

Description: Apothecia sessile, caespitose aggregates, shortly clustered, at first urceolate, then an orbicularly flattened, crenulate-margined, finally variously folded, a fuscid disc. Scalp brown, subcoriaceous, towards the base ribbed-rugged, otherwise with straight hairs, filiform, obtuse, scabrous, intermingled with simple hyphae, longer, pale fuscidulous, septate, 3–4 micron. Widely covered. Asci cylindrical, apex rounded, 8-spored. Spores oblong or oblong-fusiform, 1-celled, straight, hyaline, 2–3-dropped, finally fuscidulate, 1-stich. Paraphyses filiform, dark. The exceptional appearance and size and villousness of the apothecia and the brown spores.
