Type: Polystromomyces_araneae Mongkolsamrit, Noisripoom, Sakolrak & Himaman. Etymology: From Latin “poly” (many), referring to many stromata of the fungus on the host. Description: Sexual morph: Stromata stipitate, multiple, pale yellow mycelium covering the host. Stipes arising from spider egg sac, cylindrical at the base, slightly enlarged midway to the terminal end of the stipe below the fertile head. Fertile heads produce at the terminal stipes, disc-shaped, upper surface slightly convex. Perithecia completely immersed, ovoid. Asci cylindrical. Ascospores hyaline, filiform, disarticulating into part-spores. Colony on PDA and OA, white, producing microcycle conidiation. Host: Spider egg sac (Araneidae).
