family

Schizophyllaceae  Quélet 1888.

The Schizophyllaceae Quél. is a family of fungi in order Agaricales. This family contains three genera including Auriculariopsis Maire, Porodisculus Murrill, and Schizophyllum Fr. The Schizophyllaceae cause white rot in hardwoods. The genus Schizophyllum is the largest genus; about 82% of the species in the family and includes more than 18 validly published species all over the world. Schizophyllum commune, the split gill fungus, perhaps the world's most widespread fungus, occurring on every continent except Antarctica (Chang & Lui 1969, Adejoye et al. 2007, Ohm et al. 2010). It is found predominantly on dead wood, in coniferous and deciduous forest. This species has been reported on more than 500 hosts (Linder 1933, Cooke 1961, Olivo-Aranda & Herrera 1994, Vázquez-Mendoza 2013, Farr & Rossman 2017). However, it is also recognized as a plant pathogen that causes wood rot on living trees, and many plant species including fruit and ornamental trees have been recorded as hosts (Takemoto et al. 2010, Carreño-Ruiz et al. 2019).
