Underside of bamboo leaves.
Host:
Scale insect nymphs (Hemiptera).
Description:
Stromata yellowish orange, flattened pulvinate, 2-3.5 mm diam, covered by
conidial masses.
Conidiomata sporodochial.
Phialides yellowish-orange because of pigmented vacuoles, smooth-walled, variable in shape, cylindrical to fusoid, 15-33 μm long, basal part 13-31 × 4-9 μm, helical necks 2-6 μm long, 1.5 μm wide. Conidial masses yellow orange. Conidia cylindrical, 1- or 2-septate, smooth-walled, 9-20 × 2.5-5 μm.
Culture characteristics:
Colonies on PDA slow-growing, attaining a diam of 0.5 cm diam in 4 wk, consisting of densely packed, partly submerged and somewhat stromatic cells and a felt-like aerial mycelium. Phialides (hirsutella-like) emerging laterally from hyphae, entire phialide 10–15 × 3–5, helical necks present, up to 5 μm long. Conidial masses orange yellow. Conidia cylindrical, 1- or 2-septate, smooth-walled, 8–15 × 2–4 μm.
