Habitat:
Solitary, growing under mixed deciduous forest.
Description:
Fruit body medium to large. Pileus 70-100 mm in diam, ovoid, conical, convex to slightly plano convex with a central umbo at early stage, becoming plano-convex to applanate with a central depression at mature, orange-red, to red at center, becoming dark orange to strong orange yellow, unchanged after brushing, surface smooth, semi moist; margin striate, context thin toward margin, white in colour, turned yellow-brown, to yellow after exposed with air. Lamellae free, regular, yellowish, edge even, discolorus, orange-yellow to orange, lamellulae 1-2, truncated. Stipe 110-150 × 7-10 mm, central, more or less equal, sometimes broader toward base (8-15 mm broad), vivid orange yellow to pale orange yellow, surface cover with dense squamules, yellowish or yellow-orange in colour, moist to semi moist, context solid at young, white, turned yellowish after exposed with air. Annulus superior, skirt like, reddish orange, orange or reddish. Volva 30 × 15 mm, saccate, white to off white outer surface, cream to yellow-white inner surface. Odour unknown, Spore print not recorded.
Basidiospores 6.3-10.0 × 5.6-8.2 µm, Q = 1.08-1.6, broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid some time sub-globose with side view, thin walled, hyaline, I-gutta, light yellowish with KOH, oil granule present when viewed with KOH, apiculus distinct, 1.25-2.5 µm long.
Basidia 25.0-34.0 × 6.8-9.4 µm, clavate to subclavate, sometimes cylindrical, thin walled, hyaline, oil granules present when viewed with KOH, base attached with globose to subglobose or ellipsoid to inflated cells; 4-spored, 2.5-4.4 µm long, cylindrical. Lamellae edge sterile. Lamellae trama bilateral, divergent. Lateral trama composed with hyphal cells 1.9-6.3 µm wide, thin walled hyaline, oil granule presents with KOH. Subhymenium composed with globose to subglobose or ellipsoid cells, 6.3-20.0 × 6.0-15.0 µm, 2-3 layers, thin walled, hyaline. Pileipellis 100-150 µm deep, composed of suberect to repent hyphae, 5.0-9.0 µm wide, thin walled, branched, septate, yellowish or oranges with KOH, hyphal end obtuse, cover by a gelatin layer, cortex composed with cylindrical cells, 5.0-13.0 µm wide, thin walled, hyaline, septate, non-gelatinous. Stipitipellis up to 77 µm deep, composed of tightly arranged hyphae, 2.5-10.0 µm wide, thin walled, hyaline, branched, septate, non-gelatinized, cortex composed of intermixed with two types of hyphae; narrow hyphae 4.0-10.0 µm wide, thin walled, hyaline; broad hyphae, 12.0-25.0 µm wide, cylindrical, thin walled, hyaline, septate, hyphal end obtuse, sometimes appendiculate to moniliform. Volva on stipe base,
outer layer composed with hyphae and globose to sub-globose cells, hyphae 3.8-7.5 µm, thin walled, hyaline, oil granules present with KOH, globose or sub globose cells, 25-75 × 20-60 µm, frequently, thin walled, hyaline, oil granules present with KOH,
inner layer more or less same as outer layer but the globose or subglobose not frequently present. Annulus composed with tightly arranged hyphae, 3.8-5.3 µm, thin walled, hyaline, branched, oil granules present with KOH.
