Description:
Stroma solitary, simple, filiform, up to 21 cm long, 1 mm wide, lightbrown, ca 15 cm emerging above leaf litter, 5.5 cm buried in the soil. Asexual morph (Hirsutella) produced at the terminal part of the stroma, ca 6 cm long, light brown to grey.
Perithecia superficial, ovoid, covering the middle part of stroma, 280-390 × 160-220 µm.
Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, 120-150 × 5-7 µm, with cap, 3-4 × 4-5 µm.
Ascospores whole, filiform, 65-82.5 × 2-3 µm, with septate. Asexual morph Hirsutella. Phialides 10-26 × 3-5 µm. Conidia hyaline, fusiform, 5-7 × 3-4 µm.
Culture characteristics:
Colonies on PDA attaining a diam of 10 mm within 20 d at 25 °C, cream to grey. Conidiogenous cells monophialidic, arising from hyphae laterally or terminally, hyaline, tapering gradually or abruptly into a long slender neck, 9–21 µm long, 2–4 µm wide at the base, 1–1.5 µm wide at tip with warty surface. Conidia hyaline, one-celled, fusiform, 5–10 × 1–2 µm, with mucous sheath.
