Description:

Stromata mostly single (rarely double), arising from between the head and thorax of adult worker ants, pale cream-yellow to cream-yellow, 2–10 × 0.5–1 mm, clavate, with a fertile apex. 
Fertile head terminal, hemispherical, slightly flattened, 1.5–2.5 mm diam, sometimes slightly flattened, light orange to yellow, upper surface roughened, lateral surface, ridged and furrowed. 
Perithecia immersed, flask-shaped to narrowly ovoid, 350–550 × 130–200 μm, ostiole prominent. 
Asci 8-spored, hyaline, narrow cylindrical, 250–400 × 5–8 μm, with a thickened apex. 
Ascospores filiform, breaking into 64 part-spores, 230–370 × 1.5–2.5 μm. Part-spores hyaline, smooth, ellipsoidal with truncate, frilled ends, 4–10 × 1.5–2.5 μm.
Culture characteristics:
Fastidious species, cannot be cultured.
