Description:
Stroma arising from between the head and pronotum on a queen of Polyrhachis sp., simple, solitary, cream yellow to yellow orange, 2.5-9.5 cm long. Fertile heads terminal, ovoid, ellipsoid, obpyriform with yellow orange, ostioles slightly protruding on the surface of the plate, 1-5 × 1-1.9 mm.
Perithecia obliquely immersed, ovoid, obclavate, obpyriform, 580-870 × 150-240 μm.
Asci hyaline, cylindrical, capitate, 400-558 × 5-7 μm. Asci-caps rounded, 5-7 × 6-8 μm.
Ascospores hyaline, filiform, multi-septate, and breaking into 64 part-spores, 413-525 × 1-2 μm. Part-spores hyaline, barrel-shaped, cylindrical with truncated apices, 3-16 × 1-2 μm.
Culture characteristics:
Colonies growing on PDA slowly, ca 20 mm diam after ca 12 wk at 25 °C, at first white turning to dark-white and pale-yellow, slightly convex, dense aerial hyphae, synnemata produced after ca 3 wk with yellow and becoming yellow-orange at the top with white
conidia produced after ca 6 wk.
Conidiogenous cells (phialides) pigmented, obclavate, oppiryform, denticles, stout, protuberant, 5–13 × 3–5 μm. Conidia solitary, single cells, smooth-walled, pigmented, obovoid, fusiform-elliptical, cymbiform, cylindrical, 3–10 × 1–2 μm . The reverse side of the colonies is brown white cream in the margin.
