Description:

Fruitbodies 9–35 × 10–44 mm, globose to subglobose, bright yellow to orange-yellow when fresh, when dried bright yellow to strong orange yellow, smooth. Gleba white and soft when young, becoming light brown at maturity, usually lacking a columella but sometimes with a narrow, gray-translucent, gelatinous dendroid columella; locules minute, irregularly shaped, at maturity filled with spores. Rhizomorphs abundant, emergent from base, concolorous with peridium. Clamp connections absent. Glebal trama of hyaline, multibranched hyphae 3–7 µm broad. Basidiospores 5–13 × 4–9 µm excluding the ornamentation,mostly ovoid but some nearly obpyriform or ellipsoid, hyaline when young but by maturity brown, mostly with hyaline pedicels 2 × 1 µm; spore walls 0.7–1 µm thick, with a narrow germ pore; ornamentation of crowded spines 0.5–1 × 0.2 µm embedded in a hyaline matrix; walls and spines hyaline and dextrinoid in youth, at maturity in 5% KOH pale golden brown.Basidia 16.25–22.5 × 7.5–10.75 µm, clavate, hyaline, 4-spored, sterigmata up to 7.5 µm long, tapered.
