Description:
Stroma solitary, arising from host larva buried in the leaf litter, 5 mm long and 1 mm broad, orange to reddish-orange, cylindrical to enlarging apically. Fertile part orange to reddish-orange, subglobose, clavate, 2 × 1.5 mm.
Perithecia superficial, ovoid, 320-410 × 175-350 μm.
Asci cylindrical, eight-spored, 150-300 × 2-2.5 μm. Ascospores hyaline, whole, bola-shaped, 180-250 μm long, central part filiform, 0.5 μm broad, terminal part narrowly fusiform, with three or four septa, 27-50 × 1-1.5 μm . Anamorph: Conidial arrangement, mariannaea-like, conidia in imbricate chains, connected to each other laterally.
Culture characteristics:
Colony on PDA attaining a diam of 20 mm in 10 d, cottony with high mycelium density, mycelia cream to yellow. Phialides arising from aerial hyphae, solitary, cylindrical at the base tapering to the apex, more than 10 μm long, 0.5 μm wide. Conidia cylindrical, smooth, 5–11 × 1–2.5 μm, with one septum in mature conidia.
