Holotype:

THAILAND, Chiang Mai Province, Kanlayaniwatthana District, 6 Nov. 2019, S. Mongkolsamrit, A. Khonsanit, W. Noisripoom, P. Khamsuntorn, S. Sommai, holotype BBH 47573, ex-type living culture BCC 91361.

Habitat:

Buried in soil.

Host:

Pupa of Limacodidae (Lepidoptera) inside a cocoon.

Description:

Stromata multiple, occasionally branched, 15-45 mm long and 0.5-1 mm broad, brownish orange. Rhizoids flexuous, arising from the head region of pupa inside a cocoon buried in soil, 10-20 mm deep underground. Fertile part strong orange, cylindrical, 3-12 mm long, 1.5-2 mm broad. Perithecia superficial, crowded, narrowly ovoid, 330-450 × 150-240 μm. Asci cylindrical, eight-spored, up to 280 × 4-5 μm, with cap 2-3 μm thick. Ascospores hyaline, whole, bola-shaped, 135-275 μm long, central part filiform,0.5 μm broad, terminal part, narrowly fusiform with three or five septa, narrowly fusiform, 20-50 × 0.5-1 μm. Ascospores germinated after 24 h, conidia, ovoid, cylindrical with age, one-celled, 3-3.5 × 1-1.5 μm. Anamorph: Conidial arrangement, mariannaea-like, conidia in imbricate chains, connected to each other laterally.

Culture characteristics:

Colony on PDA attaining a diam of 35 mm in 21 d, floccose, strong yellow pink, with vivid yellow border. Synnemata awl-shaped, orange with white apex, scattered around the colony, 2–10 × 1 mm. Conidiophores either arising from prostrate hyphae and aerial hyphae, forming verticillate branches with phialides in whorls of two to four, occasionally singly along the aerial hyphae. Phialides with cylindrical to ellipsoidal basal portion, gradually tapering from the base to the apex, 8–20 × 1–2 μm. Conidia irregularly ellipsoidal, cylindrical, 3–10 × 1–2 μm, with one septum in mature conidia.
