Description:
Stromata solitary or multiple, occasionally branched, 14-20 mm long and 1-1.5 mm broad, cream to pale orange, cylindrical to enlarging apically. Rhizoids flexuous, arising from the head region of host larvae buried in soil, 35 mm deep under the ground. Fertile part orange to yellowish pink, cylindrical to clavate, 4-7 mm long, 2-3 mm broad.
Perithecia semi-immersed, ovoid, 320-480 × 170-240 μm.
Asci cylindrical, eightspored, up to 340 × 4-5 μm, with cap 3-4 μm thick. Ascospores hyaline, filiform, multi-septate, 150-320 × 1-1.5 μm. Anamorph: Conidial arrangement, evlachovaea-like.
Culture characteristics:
Colony on PDA attaining a diam of 25 mm in 10 d, cottony, white-yellowish pink mycelium, producing reddish pigment diffusing in agar medium. Phialides arising from aerial hyphae, solitary or in whorls of two to five on each branch, cylindrical, gradually tapering from the base to the apex, 8–18 × 1.5–2 μm, Conidia hyaline, oblong-elliptical, smooth, one-celled, 5–7 × 1.5–2 μm.
