Habitat:
Underside of a dicotyledonous leaf.
Host:
Spider (Araneae).
Description:
Spider host on the underside of leaves, covered by dense white mycelia (body size 23–25 × 10–12 mm),
extending outward onto the leaf surface.
Perithecia develop through the upper side of the leaves, deep yellow, superficial, narrowly ovoid, 700–850 × 300–400 μm, torrubiella-like. Perithecia not seen on the body of the host.
Asci cylindrical, up to 550 μm long, 5–7 μm wide, hyaline tip cap 5 × 2 μm. Ascospores hyaline, dissociating into part-spores, cylindrical, 4–6 × 1–1.5 μm.
Culture characteristics:
Colonies on PDA moderately fast-growing, ca 2.5 cm diam in 14 d at 25 °C, yellowish white within 14 d, cottony with high mycelial density, reverse deep yellow. Prostrate hyphae smooth, septate, hyaline, 2–2.5 μm diam. Conidiophores erect arising from vegetative hyphae. Conidiophores forming verticillate branches with solitary phialides. Phialides 12–30 × 1–2 μm, awl-shaped, lecanicillium-like. Conidia in chains, hyaline, cylindrical to ellipsoidal, 1-celled, 3–7 × 1.5–2 μm. Chlamydospores and synnemata not observed.
