Underside of a dicotyledonous leaf

Host:

Adult moth (Noctuidae, Notodontidae)

Description:

Asexual morph: Synnemata scattered, arising from the moths’ body, filiform, solitary, occasionally curved, white, pale yellow , light orange yellow, up to 10 mm long. Conidiophores densely compacted into a layer along the synnemata, cylindrical, monophialidic or polyphialidic. Phialides smooth-walled, ampulliform, obpyriform, lageniform, hyaline, (4–10 × 3–4 µm. Conidia 1-celled, ellipsoid, fusoid, obovoid, smooth walled, hyaline, 3−5 × 1−2 µm. Sexual morph: Specimens found on adult moths (Noctuidae, Notodontidae), on the stem of living bamboo twigs and underside of dicotyledonous leaves. Perithecia superficial, crowded in the middle synnemata, mostly on one side of the synnema, ovoid, strong orange yellow, strong yellowish brown , moderate yellowish brown, 500–750 × 300–400 µm. Asci cylindrical, hyaline, 250–450 × 3.5–4 µm. Asci-caps hemispherical 3 × 4–5 µm. Ascospores filiform, multi septate, breaking into part-spores, hyaline, up to 250 µm long. Part-spores cylindrical, hyaline, 4–14.5 × 0.5–1 µm.

Culture characteristics:

Colony on PDA compact, raised to the agar surface, entire margin, attaining a diam of 35 mm in 20 d, white. Conidia and reproductive structures are not observed on medium after 30 d of incubation at 25 °C.
